Born in Neapolis-Laconias-Greece. Married to Chara Athanassaki. Four children. Physics Degree, Ph.D. in
Physics (Informatics, Physics), Degree in Law. Attention of numerous Summer Schools, Training Seminars,
Free courses in Greece and abroad. Knowledge of Greek, English and French.
Professor in the Department for Primary Education of the University of Crete in the area of Science and
Mathematics and their Didactics with educational, research and administrative duties (since
1986). Founder, Organizer and Director of the Laboratory for Science Teaching
(http://www.clab.edc.uoc.gr/). Associate researcher, Teacher and Lecturer (1968-1982) in the Department of
Physics of the University of Athens (Laboratory of Nuclear Physics). Associated Scientist (PD 407) in the
Department of Physics of the University of Crete (1980-1985). Senior Research Ass. (1978-1979) in the
Department of Physics of the University of Liverpool (Oliver Lodge Laboratory). Vice President of the
Pedagogical Institute of Greece responsible (President of the Department) for the Department of Technical
and Vocational Education (1997-2000). Vice President to the “Benizeleio – Pananeio” State General Hospital
of Heraklion (1995-2002).
Enterprise Consultant, in the past, on matters of development and application of modern technology, especially
in the area of Informatics. Representative of the Greek Government (19841990) in European Community
Programs (ESPRIT, MAP,). Special Advisor to the Minister for Research and Technology in the area of
Informatics.
Current Research and Development activity: Informatics in Education, Didactics of Science and Technology,
Environmental Education, Science Curriculum Assessment. Previous R&D activity: Development of
environment protection devices, Elementary Particle physics, Specifications and Development of software
for Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SME) and for research laboratories.
Administrator and/or Coordinator of R&D projects with Greek and foreign colleagues. Member of Scientific
societies and of Human network associations for the education and training of teachers in Greece and abroad.
More than 30 years activity in University education and adequate experience from other education and training
levels. Development and delivery of numerous university courses in under- and post- graduate levels.
Organization and development of educational laboratories in Informatics and in Science. Development and
supervision of graduate and post-graduate dissertations. Development of research and supervision of Doctoral
candidates in Greece and abroad. Formation and delivery of training courses for SME’s personnel.
Development of common modules for post-graduate courses (coordinator of Erasmus projects). Personal
development courses and lectures for the general public. Studies on Technical and Vocational Education.
Feasibility studies on the development, organization and training of SME’s personnel.
Many works, alone or with colleagues, published in Greek and foreign reputable journals and conference
proceedings. Patents (registered with the European Patent Office) and Innovations. Teaching notes and
teaching aids, essays guides and technical means for specialized teaching subjects. Guidebooks on issues of
Science and Technology in Education. Scientific Editor of the ‘Science and Education’ series.
Teaching experience in all levels of Education, including supervision of Graduate, Master and Doctoral Theses,
in the areas of Science, Technology and environment, with examples from- and emphasis to the- connection
with everyday activities, Hands-on Science and Experimentation with self-made artifacts. A specially
developed 6-hours course to the postgraduate program of the Department for Primary Education was
‘Δεοντολογία της Έρευνας στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης’.
